Healthcare in Pattaya: the international-standard private hospitals, public hospitals, pharmacies and clinics, medical tourism, insurance gaps to check, and being prepared for emergencies.

Better than many expect

Pattaya has well-developed healthcare, a major reason its large retiree community feels comfortable here. The options span international-standard private hospitals to local clinics and pharmacies.

The options

Insurance — read the fine print, not just the headline cover

“Travel insurance” varies enormously in what it actually pays out for. Two gaps catch people out specifically in Pattaya: many policies exclude motorbike accidents entirely if you weren't properly licensed for the vehicle (an International Driving Permit alongside your home licence — see getting around), and not every policy includes medical evacuation for a genuinely serious case. Check both before you need them, not after.

Being prepared

Common visitor health issues

Heat exhaustion, dehydration, travellers' stomach upsets and sunburn account for a large share of what actually sends visitors to a clinic or hospital here — all largely preventable. See pharmacies and staying healthy for the everyday precautions that head most of it off before it becomes a hospital visit.

Not medical advice. This is general orientation — for care, consult qualified medical professionals, and verify current facilities and services directly.
